WHY SHOULDN’T ALL STUDENTS TAKE IPC?

Testing requirements by the 76th Legislature specified the testing of science at the high school level to include “at least Biology, and integrated chemistry and physics” knowledge. While it is true that students who take IPC will be exposed to the IPC TEKS assessed on the TAKS tests at grades 10 and Exit Level grade 11, those who take separate Chemistry and Physics courses will be equally or better prepared to be successful on these assessments. Students who take separate Chemistry and Physics courses will also be better prepared for ACT and SAT assessments. Students who were successful in grades 4-8 science concepts should be enrolled in the Biology, Chemistry and Physics sequence of science courses at the high school level.
