How do I add a Watermark Picture?
If the document contains a large amount of text, you'll probably want to choose a picture with fewer details, so the readers' eyes aren't distracted from the text. By default, Word applies a "washed out" or "dimmed" look to the picture so that it's lighter than the text. If your picture contrasts well enough with the text, and you don't want to wash it out, you don't have to apply this setting. If you want to change its size, you can scale the picture when you insert it.
