When you walk into a canteen, do lively conversations stop? Do the groups
quickly disband because everyone scrambles to head back to their offices? Do you
think yourself, "Everybody's break was really over or they were just trying to avoid
me?"
A D V E R T I S E M E N T
If any of these following situations describe you, these might be a reason you feel
left out:
1. "Sky is not really blue -- it is actually cyan"
Do you incessantly spout unnecessary or obscure the information that would make sad
trainspotter jealous? Get rid of "know-it-all" attitude or you will make the career of
lunching alone.
2.The Chains of Love
Are you never been around because you are always out on "smoking break?" Limit the puffs
to standard the break times.
3. The Workaholic Wannabe
Do you stroll in late, take the extra long lunches and do not really start to roll-up
the sleeves and dig into a serious work until about 2 p.m.? Then, you do make sure
everyone sees you working till 5 p.m.? Well you are not impressing anyone; rather
you are annoying those who have already put in full day before you even do get warmed
up.
4. A Hello Magazine -- Office Edition
You are very good at filing away the information -- about everyone in office! If you
do want to keep friends, learn to keep secret.
5. The Devil's Advocate
Do you feel as compelled to take other side of an argument just to make the point?
Well stop it! Nothing is more exhausting for colleagues than knowing that you are
always ready to challenge them no matter what they do say.
6. Nattering
Do you go round an office forcing the one-way conversations on the innocent victims?
If the only response you do receive is, "Right, umm, right," then they are not
interested in your blather. So get back to work!
7. Baby at work
Related to nattering talker is a baby babbler who incessantly gushes about her
childrens. Only the family and close friends should be privy to the details about
every syllable uttered, step taken or the nappy dirtied. It is wonderful that you do
love your baby, but just keep bragging brief.
8. Un-Clean
Leaving dishes in a sink, old food in fridge, food splattered inside a
microwave and crumbs on a break table is a sure-fire way the annoy fellow workers.
Clean up your act.
9. What is that on your nose?
Do you constantly follow the boss around, laugh at all her jokes and drop her name
in the countless conversations? If so, then you are a arse-licker. Working in the office
does require certain amount of "schmoozing" boss, but you do not have to tie up
yourself in knots to impress her -- while alienating everyone else in office.
10. A Big mouth
Are the phone conversations loud enough to be from a speaker phone even though
they are not? Dial down a volume to keep peace.
If you do recognise yourself in any of the above scenarios, take a heed. It is the time
to change your ways. Of course you can never do please everyone, but the healthy interoffice
relationships are necessary to properly perform the duties and for the future advancement
in a company. So do get rid of some of the annoying habits and you are sure to get
some new friends.
